[public-dns-discuss] Re: reverse DNS solution?



If by reverse DNS you mean lookup names from addresses, yes, you can do that with a PTR query:

https://dns.google/resolve?name=4.4.8.8.in-addr.arpa&type=PTR

https://dns.google/resolve?name=4.4.8.8.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.6.8.4.0.6.8.4.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa&type=PTR

Note that the components of the address are used in reverse order.

If it just for human use (and you don't need the plain JSON API for parsing), you can use the GUI URLs to provide formatted HTML output with a simpler query URL:

https://dns.google/query?name=8.8.4.4
https://dns.google/query?name=2001:4860:4860::8844
